Your Home Away from Home: An Apartment Hotel in Downtown Reykjavík
Between trips to the glaciers and fjords, Reykjavík makes an easy base for your time in Iceland. The capital is far more than a convenient jumping-off point. It is a destination in its own right, with the country’s best collection of shops, museums, restaurants, cafés and nightlife. Reykjavík Residence is an apartment hotel in the city centre: a home away from home, with the service of a hotel.

An Apartment Hotel in Downtown Reykjavík
Reykjavík Residence is an apartment hotel in downtown Reykjavík, with 101 studios, suites and apartments across nine restored historic buildings, all within walking distance of each other. Each room, from the cosy studios to the three-bedroom apartments, is styled with care and backed by hotel-level service.
Several of the buildings date from the early 1900s and tell personal stories of Reykjavík’s past. Hverfisgata 21 was built in 1912 for Jón Magnússon, who later served as Prime Minister of Iceland, and in 1926 it hosted King Christian X and Queen Alexandrine. Guðríðarhús at Vatnsstígur 2 was built in 1916, in the wake of the city fire of 1915, and the Artisan House dates to 1901, serving as home and workshop to craftsmen and families for over a century. Photos and stories of each building hang in the common areas, and you can read about the royal visit in The Night a King Stayed Here.
Spacious Apartments for Short and Long Stays
Our apartments give you more room than a typical hotel room, along with the service you would expect from a hotel. Apartments range from cosy studios to one-, two- and three-bedroom layouts. Every unit has its own kitchenette, and larger apartments have full kitchens with stovetops and in-unit laundry, so families and groups can share one apartment rather than book several hotel rooms.
In the bigger apartments, open-plan living areas give groups space to lounge, share meals or simply stretch out after a day on the Golden Circle. With a kitchen of your own, you can eat on your own schedule, even before a tour at the crack of dawn. You get the freedom of self-catering without giving up hotel service.
